Got back from the bloggeriffic Black Kids + Cut Copy + Simian Mobile Disco show this past Saturday. Man, that was a packed show. Black Kids performed well! Mixing new songs with the established ones from their EP, they managed to whip the crowd into a frenzy for Cut Copy.
I also had this great remix of "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You" by The Twelves sent to me and I thought you should all hear it. It does a body good. It's got that smooth 80's sound that Chromeo loves also...

Wolf Parade will be back with a new album on June 17! "Call It A Ritual" finds the boys exploring moodier territory with lush sonic landscapes. I'm digging this song. Can't wait for the new album!

The awesome keytar-drums duo of Shy Child is back wit their new album, Noise Won't Stop. It's coming out May 5th in the US, finally. I think "Astronaut" will buoy spirits on this sunny Friday afternoon! Gentlemen, take us to the weekend...

ZOMG, Flight Of The Conchords is releasing their new album today! You'll recognize many of the songs from their HBO show, but non-abridged and with better production. Check it:

Ah, I like this B-side a lot. It doesn't just make a beeline for a dance beat - it kinda takes its time getting into a syncopated groove. Boys, keep this side of your songwriting up and they'll be less detractors who fight about whether your band is math rock or not!

I've been really digging the Crystal Castles album as of late. If you haven't checked it out yet, you should! Here's the lead off track - the album is a steal for $6.99 on iTunes at the moment.

MSTRKRFT is back! They recently released a double single for "Bounce" and "VUVUVU", and they've got a new full length on the way this fall. Check below for a taste.
I'd like to mention that it's travel season for me again, so the posts might be on the shorter side for the next week and a half or so. Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in...

We love The Unicorns, and we wish they would get back together, but at least there's always Islands! Their new album, Arm's Way drops 5/20. Lots of orchestration on these songs so far! Check below for a taste of "The Arm" and a more rap heavy remix of Return To The Sea classic, "Rough Gem".

Philadephia's Pattern Is Movement plays glitchy chamber pop meets post punk meets math rock. It's kind of hard to describe, but it's very lushly produced minus the deliberately choppy samples. They've been previously compared to the likes of Don Caballero and Pinback, and they have been known to share the stage with The Forms...but aside from the hype, is it any good?
Hell yes!

It's Friday, let us be joyful! Today I've got a copy of the soon-to-be-released “Prepare To Qualify” EP by Hallelujah The Hills. It's doing a great job of taking me into the weekend with its Annuals-meets-Neutral Milk Hotel bravado.
I've also got some good news - HTH is giving the EP away for free at their website starting Tuesday, April 8th! Keep your eyes on these guys - they're only a stone's throw away from getting big.

So, there's a big scandal today in the chiptune world! Turns out Laromlab has been cribbing other people's tunes. He's printed an apology over at Mushpot Records but it doesn't really condone what he did. I try not to get too negative on my blog in general, but I gotta say, in this day and age with the internet, how can you take someone else's work and not expect someone to notice?
All this is rather unfortunate, but if there's a bright side, I found the artist behind some of my favorite "Laromlab" tunes - it's Crazy Q!

I just got a splendid press release:
BENJAMIN GIBBARD ANNOUNCES NEW SIDE PROJECT
Benjamin Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) is proud to announce a new musical project called Just Jazzin'. Born out of an interest in exploring music free from rules and convention, Just Jazzin' offers the world a chance to see another side of Ben.
"....There's this side of me and my music that desires a lack of structure and Just Jazzin' does that for me because I am allowed to just play whatever note comes into my head.", says Ben.

I've posted about Laromlab before, but what can I say? I've got a soft spot for these chiptunes. As AZLtron pointed out, if you throw some screaming on top of here you got yourself a Crystal Castles song!
