I've been totally loving Hot Club De Paris recently. They have some fairly impressive influences like Cap'N Jazz, Don Caballero, and XTC, but have managed to distill them into tight bursts of math pop. Unfortunately, their most recent album isn't available in the States yet, but you can get the first one at iTunes and Amazon MP3.

Philadephia's Pattern Is Movement plays glitchy chamber pop meets post punk meets math rock. It's kind of hard to describe, but it's very lushly produced minus the deliberately choppy samples. They've been previously compared to the likes of Don Caballero and Pinback, and they have been known to share the stage with The Forms...but aside from the hype, is it any good?
Hell yes!

Continuing our new year's opening festivities, we have some more bands that are having some important releases this year. One of them is 31Knots. Building on the momentum of a breakout year in late 2005/early 2006, they've wasted no time working on new material. The best way to describe them would be to call them math-prog-indie-punk. Yeah, yeah, we all love labels. In any case, they dropped an EP late last year as a precursor to their upcoming full length, The Days and Nights of Everything Anywhere (March 6, 2007).
Check out "Sedition's Wish" from the aforementioned EP and their breakout track, "Chain Reaction".
