LET'S SEXY FIGHTING

Let's listen to some new music. And fight...sexily.

VACATION

Hi guys, going to Europe for vacation so it seems I'll be unable to post for a little bit. Posts will resume after September 9th!

STEREO TOTAL

Today on LSF we've got crazy indie-pop duo Stereo Total from Berlin. They put out an album, Paris Berlin last week on Kill Rock Stars in the US. A bit of a melting pot, they like to mix 60's Euro pop with electroclash, new wave, garage rock and sing in 3 - 6 languages. "Ich Bin Der Stricherjunge" is from their new album, but since I'm headed to Paris on friday I thought I'd throw up a couple of their older songs sung in French.

Myspace apparently yanked the fanpage that was hosting the live version of "Arpeggi" that Pitchfork blogged about earlier. Don't worry though, that version's been floating around for a while and we've got a backup! The electronic version in question is cold, sequenced, and very minimal; in contrast, the rock version develops nicely with breakbeats and emotive backing vocals. The rock version is definitely one of my favorites from the new batch of songs they've been playing live - check the video below for a snippet of the studio version (as well as some other new songs):

THE PERFECT CRIME #2 / #1

It's been awhile since we've heard from The Decemberists, hasn't it? In any case, they're coming out with a new EP on 9/25, The Perfect Crime #2 EP featuring remixes by Junior Boys and Diplo. Head over here to catch a glimpse of the Junior Boys remix - I hear the signup on The Decemberists' site isn't working that well.

By the way, have you ever asked yourself what "The Perfect Crime #1" sounded like?" If so, check below for the answer (courtesy ___rhapsodical):

NEW FORMS

Well, looks like The Forms are back after a long recording hiatus. Stereogum dropped a new track last week, and now we've got another song from their upcoming self-titled album due 10/23/07. It was recorded by Steve Albini, and features more short, punchy songs rocking out in off-kilter time signatures. Check out "Red Gun" for some great vocal harmonies in 5!

NEW PINBACK

I'm very excited for the new Pinback album, Autumn of the Seraphs due September 11. Doing a 180 from the urgent "From Nothing To Nowhere", "Good To Sea" catches Pinback at it's poppy best, with crisp programmed beats and resigned yet optimistic vocals. Seems appropriate for a fall release!

Pre-order the album here and get a bonus 3 song EP of B-sides from the album!

ILLUMINEA

Philly/New York band Illuminea has been garnering a lot of attention recently for their cute chamber pop and intelligent arrangements. On "Homewrecker" they manage to tiptoe the line between Stars, Rilo Kiley and Azure Ray, and manage to do it pretty damn well. Their album, Out Of Our Mouths is available tomorrow!

LSF TURNS 1!

Ok, not technically...that was actually Monday last week. In any case, we were so busy that we missed it - but we'll make it up to you next year, we promise! It's been a successful year so far, helping spread the word about the bands we love and getting mentions on some of the outlets we look up to, like Idolator, Stereogum, and VH1's Best Week Ever...

Anyway, to celebrate we're reposting mp3s from the first 10 posts we made. Check it:

Sweet Trip - Dsco
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Y Control (The Faint Remix)
Life In Bed - Logic Is Your Best Defense
Clothes Make The Man - WMD
The Samuel Jackson Five - Skinflick Dress Rehersal
Bottom Of The Hudson - Tokyo

THE MAGIK MARKERS

The Magik Markers are a no wave band originally from Hartford, Connecticuit. It's easy to draw Breeders or Sonic Youth comparisions from "Taste" - we get a deliciously high bass line, synth drone, and an everpresent wall of noise. On top of it all, it's got a hip vibe - might pair well with "Natural One" by Folk Implosion...

OH NO, OH MY, HUEY LEWIS?

Austin indie-poppers Oh No! Oh My! recently covered "Finally Found A Home" for the Are You Still With Me? tribute to Huey Lewis And The News (due out sometime 2008). It's got some pretty good bands on the compilation, like Apostle Of Hustle, Bound Stems, The Long Winters, My Brightest Diamond...I don't think anyone's attempted "The Power Of Love" yet...I'd love to hear The Hold Steady take a crack!

MORE MINUS THE BEAR

Planet Of Ice is right around the corner (August 21) and here's the first single off the album! Not as poppy as "Throwing Shapes" but I think the song will hold up to repeated listens...

MYSTERY JETS

Hi guys, not much time to post today as I'm about to run off to the airport, but I wanted to point you in the direction of this Mystery Jets song...unfortunately I think it might garner some unflattering Killers comparisons, but I think it's more of the singer's voice. He sounds more British in the choruses. Anyways, some interesting influences popping out here. Britpop, new wave, some Clash...interesting piece of trivia, there is a father-son combo in this band!

FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS

Sub Pop, the new kings of indie comedy, are releasing The Distant Future EP today by Flight Of The Conchords! If you don't know about FotC, these guys are a comedic digi-folk duo from New Zealand. After gaining some momentum in the UK, they're starting to infiltrate America! Recently, they've been quite visible on their HBO show. These guys won me over with their dry humor and "Cop Rock" influenced musical outbursts...

Check out a clip from the show, and a taste of their songwriting below. Pick up the EP today!

NEW SUPER FURRY ANIMALS

Our favorite Welsh rockers are back with a new album! "Run Away" captures some of the romanticism evident in "If You Don't Want Me To Destroy You" with far less cynicism. It's a fantastic and lush pop song - also, sounds perfect for Christmas. This is totally going on my Christmas mix! It will be interesting to see if the Super Furries head this direction more or retain their signature attitude on Hey Venus! Either way, find out 8/28 stateside!

JUDAH JOHNSON

Judah Johnson is a 5-piece from Detroit. Embracing programmed beats and lush electronics, they explore the intersection of rock and ambient. Think of Jeff Buckley fronting Swervedriver - these are passionate songs with an edge.

WORLD MUSIC EDITION

Since I'm out of the country again, here's some music outside the norm. German hip-hop, what? It's got that chill vibe like "Kick Push" although I think Lupe Fiasco would rather die than be compared to these guys. Anyways, have a listen...
