LET'S SEXY FIGHTING

Let's listen to some new music. And fight...sexily.

PARTY IN A BOX

Ok kids, the new Girl Talk album, Feed The Animals is out. Looks like he's doing this Radiohead style and letting people pay what they want! So hop on over here and pay the man! It's a perfectly mixed blend of today's hits and yesterday's oldies...not to mention an easy ADD party mix to throw on. Also, ZOMG, Jay-Z vs. Radiohead!

TWO-FER

This one's a Two-fer cause I get to cover 2 artists at once! In this corner we have the excellent remix team of The Twelves who have been kicking out an insane amount of high quality reinterpretations. In the other corner we have the infectious french pop of Yelle. I want to see a clean match - no hitting below the waist...and fight!

NEW-ISH FRENCH KICKS

It's been awhile since I checked in with the French Kicks. I loved their first EP on Startime, Young Lawyer, especially the two amazing closing tracks, "Destro" and "Piano". A few albums and lineup changes later, what are they up to now? Similar things, just less piano-y and more lounge-y!

Their new album, Swimming was released on May 20th.

GRIZZLY BEAR COVERS YES

Apparently now it's cool to cover Yes! Today's track finds the Grizzlebees doing a stripped down and droney version of the Yes classic, "Owner Of A Lonely Heart".

CHERRY BOMB COUNTRY

Well, that was a busy week! Try winding down with an alternate take on Spoon's "Cherry Bomb". I might have a headache. Hmm.

SPOON DAYTROTTER SESSION

Spoon stopped by for a Daytrotter Session and in an indie rock wet dream, performed a cover of Paul Simon's "Peace Like A River." Click through below for the file and check out live takes of "The Ghost Of You Lingers," "I Could See The Dude," and "Back To The Life!"

THESE NEW PURITANS

These New Puritans are an indie rock band from the UK. They've got the same brash attitude as some of their contemporaries, but differ in their willingness to experiment. Drawing from influences of The Fall, Sonic Youth, and Wire, TNP are pushing indie rock back in the right direction!

These New Puritans hit Popscene in San Francisco this Thursday.

THE CHAP

Are you in the mood for something a little off the beaten path? At a time when "indie rock" is getting mainstream and watered down, we still have bands like The Chap holding down the fort. (Fort of indie cred?)

On their album Mega Breakfast (out July 1 here in the states) you can hear some delicious experimental pop rock. Pick it up! Strange arrangements and off-kilter song writing await!

THIS IS IVY LEAGUE

This Is Ivy League's sound falls squarely between Simon and Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, and Belle and Sebastian. It's taken a while to grow on me, but "London Bridges" is a great song for lounging around, or perhaps to make brunch to. Mmm, brunch. Man, I need to eat.

Also check out their cover of The Arcade Fire's "Crown Of Love". Sounds like it'd have a place on the Juno 2 soundtrack...

IT'S TOO DAMN HOT TO WEAR A SCARF IN THE SUMMER

Amusing. You may recognize Oh Snap!! from the remix of "Bounce" by MSTRKRFT that's been going around.

NEW ALBERT HAMMOND JR

I have to be honest, I passed on covering Albert Hammond Jr's first album cause I thought some of the tracks treaded too close to new Strokes territory. The good news, however, is that our first peak at ¿Cómo Te Llama? (out July 8th) shows Albert has grown as a songwriter and is finding his own sound. "GfC" starts by riding a sparse verse groove, the kind where the space between the beats is just as important. When it's chorus time, the song explodes and Albert confidently belts it out. He's never sounded better!

THE BLACK GHOSTS

Well, this earwig of a remix crawled into my head and won't come out! Which brings me to my next point - meet The Black Ghosts! Electro from the UK with some soul. Of course, also the occasional dissonant parts that I love so much.
