LET'S SEXY FIGHTING

Let's listen to some new music. And fight...sexily.

BIRDS AND BATTERIES TONIGHT!

Tonight Performer Magazine presents Birds And Batteries at the Hemlock Tavern in SF! Also on the bill are The Rooftop Vigil and The Special Goodbye.

Side note: The Rooftop Vigil actually used to be Parasol until they got slapped with a lawsuit - this is their first show with the new name, so let's make sure it sticks!

THE CAPITOL YEARS

Philadelphia's The Capitol Years came to my attention recently. When I first heard "Mirage People", I thought they were singing "it's a rash, people look". Obviously I was mistaken. Even though I misheard the lyrics I was highly impressed by the sweet and uncliched vocal harmonies. Simply beautiful!

ITALIAN SPIDERMAN

Genius.

The Velvet Teen is an indie rock band from northern California. Over the years their sound has bounced from guitar-based pop rock to orchestral baroque pop to loud noise rock...I saw them live about a month ago and was taken aback by how brash their new sound was. However, careful listening to their latest album, Cum Laude, reveals their pop sensibilities are still at core. Check out "Tokyoto" for something new, and "Caspian Can Wait" for something old...

KNIFE FIGHT!

It's Friday, time for a knife fight! In this corner we've got The Knife from Sweden...and in the opposite corner we've got "Knife" by Grizzly Bear! It doesn't work perfectly, but it is genius in concept.

ZILLIONAIRE

I don't usually hear too much out of Tampa that I have been enjoying lately, but Zillionaire is a well-noted exception to the rule. They play classic indie rock with strong influences from Versus, Polvo, and Bedhead. Their debut album, "The Street Lights Have Been Turned Down" will be released on January 15, 2008! Check below for a sneak peak:

Team LSF was on hand for the well received Robbers On High Street Show last Friday night...

RoHS rocked through some of the highlights from their latest album, including "The Fatalist", "The Ramp" and "Crown Victoria".

Putting on a tight show, RoHS won over more than a few new fans with their take on 60s and 70s pop!

DAN BEJAR

Well, seems like Dan Bejar has embarked on another ambitious project - Hello, Blue Roses finds him combining songwriting efforts with his romantic partner, Sydney Vermont. Wait, didn't I do this story earlier this year? When it was Dan Boecker starting Handsome Furs with his girlfriend Alexei Perry? Must have caught it through Spencer Krug...

In short, "Shadow Falls" is quite romantic. Vote Chris Christmas Rodriguez to replace Santa this year!

STUDIO DOES KYLIE

Looks like our favorite britpop/afrodub Swedes have remixed Kylie's "2 Hearts", changing the lounge stomper into a chill (but sexy) club mix. Check it!

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

Daylight Savings Time got you feeling a little pensive? Soundtrack it with some Under Byen! It's like being depressed in the late autumn but with the hope of Christmas 'round the corner.

I LOVE FRIDAYS

It was quite a treat to spend Halloween night this year with The Pipettes. Who needs candy when you've got sugary lyrics and
infectious hooks from the prettiest girls you've ever met. When we got to the venue, we were expecting more people in the audience, but a couple hundred people seemed justified given that (1) it was Halloween and (2) The Pipettes are just making a splash in the US.

Gwenno, RiotBecki, and Rosay trotted onto the stage at around 10:15. They started things out solidly with one of their new songs, "Dance and Boogie". Sporting their trademark polka dots and spouting their three-part harmonies, how could you not fall in love with them? Their set was filled with clapping, snapping, and synchronized dance moves. It was incredible to see them keep up their energy from start to finish.

They covered just about all the songs from their album and then some. Their backing band The Cassette were tight and held it down for the girls. After 20 songs, there was a brief break before the encore. They came back with "ABC" and "I Like a Boy in Uniform (School Uniform)". Their set was about an hour long, but it didn't feel short at all. We're loving this 60's girl pop revival, and we hope to see The Pipettes again real soon.

Setlist:

Dance and Boogie
Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me
Because It's Not Love (But It's Still a Feeling)
Baby Don't Leave Me
It Hurts to See You Dance So Well
Tell Me What You Want
Guess Who Ran Off With the Milkman?
Your Love For Me
Why Did You Stay?
Sex
Don't Forget Me
The Burning Ambition of Early Diuretics
I Love You
True Love Waits Patiently for a Miracle
Judy
By My Side
One Night Stand
Dirty Mind
Pull Shapes
We Are the Pipettes

Encore:

ABC
I Like a Boy in Uniform (School Uniform)
