LET'S SEXY FIGHTING

Let's listen to some new music. And fight...sexily.

GRIZZLY B-SIDES

Stumbled across this Grizzly Bear cover of 60's girl group The Crystals' "He Hit Me (It Felt Like A Kiss" from a live performance on KEXP earlier this year. These guys are so good, I didn't even notice this was a live performance! Even though the subject matter of the original song is already dark, the grizzlebees really managed to bang out a really haunting rendition!

ALL MY FRIENDS

Well, the blogosphere basically blew up yesterday with the Franz Ferdinand cover of LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends". The question is, have you heard the John Cale version? The Franz version went all New Order, where as the Cale version goes all post-Talking Heads David Byrne weird. Corn is no place for a mighty warrior!

TREY TOLD EM

I'm running off on a business trip for a couple weeks, posting might be ever so slightly less frequent as I hop around internationally. For starters, check out the Trey Told Em remix of "Cheer It On" by Tokyo Police Club. Trey Told Em is the new remix project by Girl Talk's Gregg Gillis. In typical Girl Talk fashion, we have lots of samples flittering in and out - but the new thing is that it's not as ADD! I love playing Girl Talk for my co-workers so they can say (with some slight sarcasm) "Wow, it's like all my favortie songs crammed into 3 minutes!"

SIR SALVATORE

Sir Salvatore is an indie rock band from my stomping grounds, San Francisco. They play a blend of indie rock, math rock, and a touch of shoegazer. They have a cd release show for their debut EP, Those Men Are Not Astronauts, tonight at The Knockout in SF. I can hear bits of The Pixies, Pavement, and Polvo in their songs - check 'em out! Although I can pick out some influences, they definitely have developed a sound of their own. Kudos, boys!

DEPARTMENT OF EAGLES

As some of you know, my internet at home has been like out for like 2.5 weeks now. This has been making it hella annoying to post, since it's not always at my convenience. Damn corporate bureaucracies! In any case, it's time for me to drop some Department of Eagles on you.

Department of Eagles is a project of Dan Rossen, one of the members of Grizzly Bear. Who I LOVE. Fair enough to say, I think you can hear how Dan contributes to Grizzly Bear...

HANDSOME FURS

So, Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade and his fiancee, Alexei Perry, decided to get together and throw us some tunes. You know, Dan Boeckner, the other songwriter in Wolf Parade. Why do him and Spencer Krug sound so similar anyway? In any case, you should check out these songs from the upcoming release, Plague Park, due out May 22 on Sub Pop. It's sorta like Wolf Parade...but with more drum machine and electronic elements.

HOT CHIP HOT CHIP EVERYWHERE

Yeah, so every other post out of our mouth is about Hot Chip. What can we say, we just can't get enough of them! What are our affable Brits up to this week? Providing us a remix of !!! and curating the next DJ-Kicks collection. Totally stoked about the DJ-Kicks - for those not in the know, DJ-Kicks is a series of DJ mix albums that showcase the musical tastes of DJs and bands, usually encompassing electronic/house music broadly. One of our all time favorites is the Erlend Oye curated one...

THE NATIONAL

Not a new band by any means, The National formed back in 1999 when 2 sets of brothers and a lead singer from Cincinati all found their way to New York City. There they began playing their blend of post-punk, alt-country, and orchestral pop to great acclaim. 2005's Alligator really put them on the map, and now they're back with a new album!

Boxer will be released May 22 on Beggar's Banquet in the US. Check out a new cut, "Mistaken For Strangers".

RATATAT, 120 DAYS @ BIMBO'S 365

The Let's Sexy Fighting team hit Bimbo's right before 120 Days took the stage. Some people upfront were yelling, "Yeah! Sweden!" much to the dismay of 120 Days. This resulted in lead singer Adne (sounding somewhat drunk-like, or was that just his accent?) replying with "Ignorant Americans! We are from Norway!" The LSF team had a good laugh at that one. Videos down below...

Ratatat took the stage later, a little sloppier than usual, but still rocking the house. More videos would have been taken of Ratatat, except for the security guard who came over and stopped me in the middle of "Crips". Also, there was a funny tidbit when their projector started going on the fritz and demanding that the air filter be cleaned.

Good news! They also were selling their Ratatat Remixes Vol. 2 with more rap set to Ratatat. It's pretty slick, check it out below...
