Shortly after 9pm, the theater was chanting "Lily! Lily!". As soon as the chanting started, Ms. Allen graced us with her presence. She sported a laid back look tonight favoring a pink wifebeater over her usual fancy dresses.

The 620 capacity sold out theater loved Lily. She was very comfortable on stage and wasn't afraid to scold the one guy who was clapping out of time in the middle of her rendition of "Naive" by The Kooks.

She beefed up her set since her last North American tour by adding several covers by Keane, Kaiser Chiefs(!), Blondie, and the aforementioned Kooks.

Lily was especially bubbly tonight as she drank champagne throughout her set. Also present was the occasional cigarette.

Almost that time of year for me to round up my year end lists. But, I have a few more posts to squeeze out while I stall for time. Got a hold of some fun Lily Allen and Mark Ronson collaborations. You know how "Smile" was a great summertime song? This version casts it in more of a 50's pop, wintery light. I think it would go great in an xmas party playlist, let me tell you. The cover of the Kaiser Chiefs is fun. Takes the brit-pop jangle of the original and injects it with a little more attitude!

Well, as you can see, I did make it to the show last night. Check out further down the page for more photos and a short video!

The Let's Sexy Fighting team got to Popscene early last night, around 7pm. Probably within the first 30 people in line. It ended up wrapping around the corner by 8pm...Popscene is a small space, and it reached capacity quickly after the door were opened. Ended up having a few drinks and sitting through the opening DJs until the main event.

Lily and the band came on a little after 10:30. The place was full of enthusiastic fans, to which she chirped, "Looks like a lot of you have been downloading the cd!"

She was spot on, she sounded great and so did the brass. Unfortunately, she had a sore throat and was forced to cut the set short. I know her sets this tour have been about 40 min (simply cause she only has one cd) but we all wanted more!

We tried to track her down for a photo after the show, but didn't play the waiting game long enough. All in all, excellent concert, lots of energy, but unfortuantely short set. Hopefully (or hopefully not) we can see her in a small venue like this again. Enjoy the video clip...Lily, come back!
UPDATE: Added a video of Lily's performance of LDN.

Just wanted to drum up some support/make getting into the concert impossible for the Lily Allen show tomorrow night at Popscene in SF. A blogger favorite for months, she combines the best bits of dub, reggae, ska, and a lot of sass in general. Even if you are the most jaded scenster this girl will make you move your feet. Give it a try. Her approach to lyrics are very direct, descriptive, and to the point. You might even want to draw a comparison to the lyrical stylings of the Streets. You can only listen to people singing "everyman" lyrics so often...
Popscene, for those unfamiliar with how they do things, does not sell advance tickets for shows like this. Therefore you have to get your ass there early and get in line! They always do this with big shows...one of the first times Bloc Party came across the pond is was impossible to get in. Better get there early...show "starts" at 9pm. Did I also mention this is only one of 5 stops Lily is making/made in North America?
