Fleet Foxes are re-releasing their debut EP on April 8th, Sun Giant EP. Rightfully so, with their s/t album blowing up left and right, it was easy to overlook!

It's been a while since I've reported on Foreign Born. Luckily, they happen to have a new album coming out on June 23 entitled, Person To Person. It's kinda dreamy and contemplative, and probably wouldn't have been out of place on last friday's mini mix! Also, the horns that come in at the end really give the song a satisfying conclusion.

A little behind here, but Animal Collective released a new album in January entitled, Merriweather Post Pavilion. The album finds them experimenting more with the "beats" that the darn kids seem to enjoy so much these days, while keeping their distinctive sense of melody and song structure.

I went to see ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead last night for the first time in 7 years and had a better time than I thought I was going to. What was the recipe for success? Trail Of Dead played a bunch of stuff off Source Tags And Codes and I enjoyed the opener, Funeral Party. They were very disco, but also dirty and messy. I'd like to imagine this is what a baby of At The Drive In and The Rapture (the old days) would sound like!

Last week Neko Case released a new CD entitled, Middle Cyclone. The title track is a mainly acoustic affair, with sparse music box accompaniment! Oh yeah, and some warm reverb. It's a nice song to gaze out the window and daydream to.

St. Vincent is Annie Clark, a multi-instrumentalist songwriter that has also spent time in Sufjan's band and The Polyphonic Spree. "Strangers" is our first taste of Actor (due out May 5), and it finds us floating somewhere between Regina Spektor, a 50's Disney soundtrack, and some good ol' 70's prog.

When I went to check out Cut Off Your Hands a couple weeks ago, I had the pleasant surprise of catching Telekinesis as the openers! Telekinesis is the brainchild of Michael Benjamin Lerner, and also a recent signee to Merge Records! It kind of reminds me of Death Cab For Cutie, but a little chunkier. Coincidentally, the album was produced by Chris Walla of Death Cab...
The self titled album is due out April 7th.

The Strokes' Nikolai Fraiture has a side project entitled "Nickel Eye". Recently, they released their debut, The Time of The Assassins. Not surprisingly (in this day and age), we've already got a fresh remix of the lead single! Here we have Mark Ronson taking the laid back ska-lite of "Brandy of the Damned" and laying it back further with his signature "soul horns" treatment...

Picked this video up on the great neighborhood Mission Mission blog. I don't usually dabble in hip hop too much but this is definitely a catchy one!

After releasing a critically acclaimed EP only last fall, the Crystal Antlers are already dropping a full length entitled Tentacles on April 7th! It's a crazy mishmash of genres...a little garage, a little psych, a little surf...but quite compelling listening.
