Band Of Horses played SF last night at Mezzanine with Dinosaur Jr., but I was unfortuately a little too braindead after my flight to go to the show! In any case, Cease To Begin will be released October 9 and the band have generously provided the first single, "Is There A Ghost" up for download at their myspace page. Just to fill in the gaps, here's a B-side from their Funeral 7", a brilliant cover of The New Year. Go e-bow!

Band of Horses kicked off the show with a cautionary greeting - Ben Bridwell mentioned that he was going to "try not to barf" because of the amount of people in the audience. They powered through some old favorites from the album and a couple new tracks from their recently recorded second album.
Andrew Bird upped the ante with a spinning phonograph and impressive whistling (giving Peter Bjorn and John a run for their money). Quote from an audience member, "He doesn't even need the philharmonic!"
The Decemberists took the stage in their best Polyphonic Spree attire. Been hanging out with Conor Oberst too much recently?

Colin got into the crowd for some close up guitarwork - he said he wanted to get out into the audience to do a solo but that his cord wouldn't reach that far. Instead, he decided to mime the solo and have Chris Funk do the real work.

Archives is the latest project from ex-Band of Horses member Mat Brooke. Mat was the primary contributor on BoH songs "St. Augustine" and "I Go to the Barn Because I Like The". The new tracks don't diverge from his previous sound too much, but that's not a bad thing! Unlike BoH, all four members sing, allowing for some lush vocal harmonies. I need to go lie in the park and listen to "Sleepdriving".
