We're at the beginning of the safe xmas music season, why not get a little freaky before it sets in fully? The USA Is A Monster is an experimental 2 piece from Brooklyn, rocking out with touches of prog and math rock. "Cocaine Wedding" is addictive. I sorta just want to listen to it on repeat several times through.

I hadn't heard "This Charming Man" in a long time until it came up on shuffle yesterday. It's such a great song, boppy, with crazy Johnny Marr guitar and Morrissey crooning...digging further into the archives also produced a Stars cover of the tune...something I imagine would go great on an xmas playlist!

It's kind of a lazy sunday...time for some music to chill out to. Check out San Francisco's Magic Bullets - dreamy, but anchored with steady beats. "Heatstroke" would pair well with The Radio Dept's "Pulling Our Weight" in a playlist.

San Francisco's French Miami recently released their full length, Oui SeƱor. On it, you can hear math rock influences combined with pop sensibilities. Maybe I can describe it as part Marnie Stern, part Trans Am, and part Battles...

The album is called Invitation and it features Inara George and her lovely and striking voice backed by orchestral arrangements from the legendary Van Dyke Parks. "Accidental" plays out like an experimental version of a Disney musical!

Today we have The Soft Hands out of Long Beach, CA. They have a surprisingly full sound for a three piece! Part Wire, part Costello, and part ADD, these guys know how to craft a dynamic song. Check "Harbor" below for a taste.

Empire Of The Sun is a new group formed by Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore of Pnau. It's kinda laid back and dancey, sharing the same sort of vibe as Cut Copy's Bright Like Neon Love. Dear EMI, please release this stateside!

Dianogah is back with a new album entitled qhnnnl. On it, they've added Andrew Bird on violin for a few tracks. It's a nice addition to their usual twin bass attack! I happen to have an example of such a collaboration for your listening pleasure....

I can't think of a better celebration song for the indie set than "Game Of Pricks". I'm pretty sure if Obama had walked out to this song I would have shit my pants.
